A Note from the Pastor

We truly are in the “dog days of summer”! You’ve probably asked the same question I seem to ask daily: “When will the heat end?!”

Even in the midst of these hot summer months, with what seems like overly oppressive heat and humidity, we are fortunate to live near several bodies of water that can help cool us off: springs, lakes, rivers, the Gulf, and the Atlantic, along with pools, and for some, a good ole’ garden hose, all go a long way in making these summer months bearable.

But like you, I am always happy to retreat inside to the cold AC! This wonderful invention makes all the difference in helping to deal with summers in Gainesville.

What do you do when your life becomes oppressive? How do you deal with the trials and tribulations that our imperfect world throws at you? Do you have something you do or some place you can go that helps make things more bearable? Where do you retreat to find rest, peace, and hopeful repose? I hope that answer includes the Word of God, prayer with our Lord, regular worship, daily confession of your sins, and regular reception of the Body and Blood of Christ.

In the midst of the heat and of those things that oppress you, be sure to partake in the gifts of Word and Sacrament that our Lord offers. You can do those things here at Abiding Savior…where the AC is always cold and Christ’s forgiveness is always offered.

Little Lutherans' Lessons

On the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month, children may attend this special lesson time during the sermon. Children stay with their families for the Divine Service until the sermon begins. At that point, volunteers lead them to the nursery for a lesson tailored just for them. After the sermon, the children will rejoin their families for the remainder of the service

LWR Quilting

The quilt group is in need of more workers. No skills needed other than the ability to tie a knot or use a scissors. If you want to learn to sew we can teach you. If you want to help make quilts and Saturdays are not a good time we can provide projects you can do on your own time.
