Missions

Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.

1 Peter 4:10

Embracing the spirit of 1 Peter 4:10, our church community recognizes that each of us have received special gifts from the Lord. As stewards of these gifts, we joyfully serve our community, fostering the love and glory of God. Read on to discover the various ways that ASLC strives to fulfil Jesus' commands by serving our community here in Gainesville, and also abroad.

Missions

In the book of Matthew, Jesus says "Go and make disciples of all nations; baptize them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit and teach them to obey everything I have commanded you." (Matthew 28:19-20)
In June 2024, we are partnering with United Servants Abroad in Peru, South America by taking an exploratory trip to see the various ways that the Lord is working in Peru. We will be working directly with Tom Hough, a second generation missionary whose family has roots in Peru dating back to the 1950's. What an exciting opportunity for ASLC to be a part of the furthering of God's kingdom in this way!

Helping Hands

The church budget designates funds that, in addition to direct congregational participation, help serve various needs in our community. Included are:
-School Supply Drive to benefit local schools
-Fall Food Drive to benefit Bread of the Mighty
-Star Tree program to benefit local schools at Christmas
-When we are able, these funds are used to help those in need of some temporary assistance with housing, electricity, or food.

Meals of Hope

Meals of Hope is a food packing event that benefits Bread of the Mighty, a local organization whose mission is to provide hope and encouragement to those in our community who face hunger by increasing access to sufficient and nutritious food.
Members of Abiding Savior join with members of the community for a fun morning of packing meals to be distributed to those in the Gainesville area and beyond!
Over half of the public K-12 schools in our county qualify for free and reduced lunch for their students during the school year. This is a tremendous help, as families from low income households struggle to provide regular meals for their children. During the holiday and summer months, many of those students go without regular meals. Through Meals of Hope, we can fill that need.
While you can go ahead and mark your calendar for Saturday, May 18th 2024, more information will be provided in the Spring regarding sign up.
Through a combination of dedicated and raised funds, ASLC financially sponsors this event. If you are interested in supporting this mission
